The trio did not do enough to attract Leeds United into permanently signing them.

Leeds United have been bringing in plenty of top young talents to the development side in recent months but 12 months ago they were looking to do similar.

Leeds’ under-23s took on Shamrock Rovers in a friendly match a year ago and three names on the Leeds team-sheet did not look familiar.

Aaron Splaine, Jack Boyle and Mitja Krizan were all in the Leeds team that day, trying to earn a contract at Elland Road.

None of them made the grade for Leeds, so one year down the line, where are they now?

Jack Boyle

The youngster, from Leeds, was on trial at the club from local rivals Huddersfield Town.

The fact the Terriers allowed the young midfielder a chance to impress at Leeds came as something as a surprise and indicated that perhaps he was set to be let go.

However, he actually remained at the club last summer. On transfer deadline day he headed out on loan to Scottish side Clyde - where he will hope to pick up some first-team experience.

The Scottish midfielder spent some time on trial at Leeds after a similar spell at Stranraer. He had just been released by Kilmarnock and a move to West Yorkshire certainly seemed to be in his wheelhouse.

However, no move to Leeds materialised and in the summer he joined Scottish Championship side Queen of the South on a free transfer.

Mitja Krizan

One month after his stint at Leeds the Slovenian was on his way from parent club NK Celje to Drava Ptuj on loan.

That did not become a permanent deal and just one week ago he finally left Celje. He headed to Slovenian second tier side NK Fuzinar on a free transfer.
