Graeme Murty indicated that there was a glimmer of hope for Joe Dodoo at Rangers after playing him in the 3-0 Scottish Cup win at Fraserburgh last month.
But considering that the English striker was left out completely in Sunday's 6-1 win over Ayr United in the same competition, it could be argued that there is no future for him at Ibrox.
Murty named four strikers - Jason Cummings, Alfredo Morelos, Kenny Miller and Eduardo Herrera - in his matchday squad at the weekend but the 22-year-old wasn't one of them and he should be fearing the worst.
Dodoo had a disastrous loan spell at Charlton Athletic in League One, being an unused substitute in 15 League One games in a row from September 26 until December 29.
And failing to do the business in League One can't have been a good indication that he was ready to score goals regularly in the Scottish Premiership.
The former Leicester City prospect joined Rangers in 2016 under Mark Warburton, but the idea of him becoming a success at Ibrox seems to be growing ever bleaker and it's just very difficult to see a way back for him after Murty's snub this past weekend.
