With 11 goals in all competitions, Kemar Roofe is Leeds United’s top scorer this season.
Not that you would have guessed it based on the intense criticism the number seven has been subjected to on social media over the last few days. Yet, the Leeds fans might have a point.
Roofe may have outscored Samu Saiz, Pierre-Michel Lasogga and co in 2017/18 but he is stuck in a rut right now and, on current form, should not be anywhere near Paul Heckingbottom’s starting XI.
The 25-year-old, who has endured an inconsistent spell at Leeds following his £3 million move from Oxford United, has been well off the pace in recent games against Hull City, Cardiff and Sheffield United.
He was even hauled off at the break in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Brammal Lane, Heckingbottom’s first game at the helm. Leeds, despite going on to lose thanks to a Billy Sharp double, improved in the second half with Pablo Hernandez on in Roofe’s place.
And it seems that the Elland Road faithful have had enough.
Leeds welcome Bristol City to West Yorkshire this weekend and, in the eyes of many supporters, there is no chance that Roofe should be afforded his seventh league start of 2018.
Also I don't know why Roofe is so bad...I like him a lot but he isn't the player that suits to our system..— GREEK LEEDS FAN (@6W0Qz4ScHqWNm37) February 13, 2018
I hope he will become better with PH #lufc
Funny how it seems to be only the fans who don’t go to games who cry about players being “slagged off”.— Jack (@EllandReports) February 11, 2018
I pay my money to watch #lufc up and down the country so if I want to say that Roofe is a waste of space & doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near Championship Football, I will do
Disappointed if he, or Roofe makes team (poss even bench)....time for Hecky to show who is boss and make changes— AW (@AWwhite1) February 12, 2018
We need better than roofe mate he’s garbage 1 good game in 8— jamie (@jamiepartridge3) February 11, 2018
Players we need to get rid of lonergan, cooper, okane, sacko, roofe, grot,Anita #lufc— jamie (@jamiepartridge3) February 11, 2018
Roofe can go in the summer - along with Sacko, O'Kane, Cooper, Bera, Lonergan and Anita. Players who'll never take us where we need to be, but who if they're still in the squad will end up being picked at some point. Seen quite enough, thanks.— CK (@ephemeraljoy) February 12, 2018
