Leeds United’s first game under the management of Paul Heckingbottom did not go the way of a dream start. They lost 2-1 at Bramall Lane after goals from former Whites striker Billy Sharp in either half sandwiched a header from Pierre-Michel Lasogga.

The game saw Heckingbottom make a bold call to bring Eunan O’Kane back into the starting XI and handed the captain’s armband.

The Irishman had not started a game since the fixture with Ipswich Town last month and he did not do much to suggest he deserves to remain in the starting XI.

O’Kane was poor throughout the game with both of Sheffield United’s goals coming from direct errors from the Leeds captain.

His poor headed clearance fell straight at Billy Sharp, who smashed home a beautiful volley to give the Blades the lead.

He then gave away the penalty as Sheffield United took three points. It was a difficult fixture for the midfielder and perhaps he was a little rusty after his time out of the team. But Leeds fans will know his form was not great prior to being dropped and were not surprised he failed to impress.

O’Kane is not alone, but he is not currently in the form necessary to be starting in the Leeds United midfield.

Heckingbottom may have to rethink his stance.
