Nottingham Forest fans participating in a poll on social networking site Twitter have voted in favour of new signing Ben Watson making the starting line-up against Hull City this weekend.

The former Wigan Athletic holding midfielder joined Forest on a two-and-a-half-year deal following his release from Premier League side Watford.

Watson made 35 Premier League appearances for the Hornets during the 2015/16 campaign, but over the past 18 months his appearances were restricted as he found himself surplus to requirements.

Forest boss Aitor Karanka, keen to add experience to his young squad during the January transfer window, was quick to take advantage of Watson’s release as he persuaded the player to switch to the City Ground.

Despite his lack of regular football in recent months and a possible dip in fitness, the majority of the Forest fans participating in the poll would like to see him feature from the start this coming Saturday.

As per the poll results, 83 per cent voted in favour of Watson starting what could be a crunch tie in the East Midlands.

Forest’s poor run of form has seen them starting to look nervously over their shoulder, while a dismal win of just one win in 17 league matches currently sees the Tigers sitting in the Championship relegation zone.

Nine points separates the two teams, although Hull will be buoyed by their recent 2-1 FA Cup win over Forest and they know their opponents will be hurting following successive league defeats to Preston and Fulham.

Watson will provide the necessary mettle in midfield, and his presence could allow the Reds’ exciting young players such as Ben Osborn and Kieran Dowell to play more freely behind teenage striker Ben Brereton.
