Best defender at the club. Good to see him move closer to a return.— Levi Stubbs (@levi_stubbs) February 8, 2018
Sorry but that is nonsense. Alves perhaps never quite lived up to the hype, but he is our best defender by a significant distance. To even mention Bates in the same sentence as Alves is laughable.— Faceless (@FacelessRanger) February 8, 2018
Somebody literally just said Alves was not a patch on Bates in this thread! I despair!— Matt Ramsay (@MRamsay89) February 8, 2018
Best defender in the league when fit.— Mark Philpott (@markyphilpott89) February 8, 2018
Sell him .. loan him out ...— Lorna (@lornal656) February 8, 2018
Alves and Cardoso were in yesterday putting in a session themselves. A fit and motivated Alves is a massive plus for the team— Stephen Lang (@Stephen79756980) February 8, 2018
Good to hear— George Fitzpatrick (@gfitzpatrick124) February 8, 2018
Hopefully the big man gets back to full fitness and offers us something- him and Martin with Bates rotating— Sir Moots (@Moots84) February 8, 2018
Alves joined Rangers in the summer of 2017 and was expected to be a huge signing for the Glasgow giants.
However, the Portuguese centre-back has struggled with injury concerns, and his performances when he has featured have not been great.
That said, there is no doubt that Alves is a quality footballer who adds experience and a winning mentality to the current Rangers team.
Alves can be an important player for Rangers in their quest to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season.
