The Chelsea talent was reportedly watched by a Derby County emissary on Tuesday.

A Derby County scout 'could not stop waxing lyrical' about Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu after watching him in action on Tuesday, according to the London Evening Standard.

The Derby emissary is said to have made the short trip to Lincoln City to watch Ampadu in action for Chelsea's Under-21s, who were knocked out of the Football League Trophy on penalties.

And it is claimed he left with 20 minutes remaining, having seen enough of the 17-year-old, for whom his enthusiasm 'spoke volumes'.

The London Evening Standard warn, however, that if Derby are planning a summer move for Ampadu it will almost certainly fail.

Derby loan a logical next step?

Despite his tender years, Ampadu, a centre-back-cum-defensive-midfielder, has already made 19 senior appearances - including six for Chelsea, for whom he signed from Exeter City in July 2017.

The chance to add to that early experience at a club like Derby, for example, could be a logical next step in the Wales international's career - especially with the Rams on course for promotion to the Premier League.
