Sheffield Wednesday fans mock Sheffield United after U23 derby success

The win made it a hat-trick for Sheffield Wednesday's youth teams against Sheffield United since the end of last month.

Sheffield Wednesday Under-23s made it three wins out of three for Owls youth teams against Sheffield United, courtesy of last night's 2-0 success at Bramall Lane.

Wednesday's U16s and U18s came away from Shirecliffe with 5-1 and 3-1 victories less than a fortnight ago, and goals from Jack Stobbs and Preslav Borukov made it a hat-trick on Monday.

 

With little to shout about at senior level this season - where Sheffield United are nine places and 13 points better off than their rivals in the Championship - some Owls fans are making the most of the U23s' success, which they are using to mock the Blades over a post made by their official Twitter account in April last year.

Shortly after United's status as League One champions was confirmed, they tweeted the following image, along with the words: "Think we need to update the honours board, don't you?"

 

However, as several people pointed out, said 'honours' board includes four play-off final and seven FA Cup semi-final defeats - including one against their rivals from Hillsborough.

Others, meanwhile, are discussing more serious matters, such as the prospect of a few of Wednesday's U23s being called into Jos Luhukay's first team set up, after the positive impressions made by Jordan Thorniley and Cameron Dawson - among others - of late...
