The wide man would be a much better fit as an impact substitute.
Everton are perhaps the Premier League’s most inconsistent team. They showed that yet again this weekend gone with an inept performance against Arsenal at The Emirates which saw them soundly beaten, 5-1.
Once again plenty of Everton players deserved stick for their showing but one man who is receiving the brunt of it at present is winger Yannick Bolasie.
The DR Congo winger is still only just back from a serious knee injury, so he deserves to be cut a modicum of slack. He is also a really good guy and a great personality, but at the moment he is simply more of a hindrance than anything else.
When you compare his performance to that of former Everton player Gerard Deulofeu, who gave Chelsea the runaround for Watford on Monday night, you can see why Everton fans are so frustrated at the player.
Gerard Deulofeu of Watford celebrates scoring the 3rd Watford goal during the Premier League match between Watford and Chelsea at Vicarage Road on February 5, 2018 in Watford, England.
He is constantly trying to do something bedazzling, like former Allardyce star Jay Jay Okocha when they were paired at Bolton Wanderers. But here’s the thing, Bolasie is not Okocha and does not have his talent - and at least Okocha had a long throw to offer as well.
Olympique de Marseille's forward Franck Ribery (L) vies with Bolton midfielder Jay Jay Okocha during the UEFA Cup football match Marseille vs Bolton, 23 February 2006 at the Velodrome...
Bolasie has an X factor about him but right now, it is mind-boggling to conceive him as a regular starter for Everton. He is clearly more of an impact player and hopefully that will soon be the case. As good a job Allardyce has done steering Everton away from the dropzone, they are far from safe. Bolasie as a starter is just going to hinder that further.
