West Ham United were linked with a move for Gerard Deulofeu in January, and their inability to get the deal done may come back to haunt them.

Watford sealed their first win under new boss Javi Gracia on Monday night as they tore Chelsea apart in the second-half and won 4-1 at Vicarage Road. And it was arguably one of the Hornets' January signings who stole the show against the Blues.

Gerard Deulofeu was in brilliant form on only his second appearance for Watford, winning the penalty for the home side's first goal and scoring the third. And that display may have left some West Ham fans kicking themselves.

El Gol Digital reported back in January that the Hammers were eyeing up a loan move for the Spaniard, but for whatever reason, Deulofeu did not end up at the London Stadium and joined their Premier League rivals instead.

With the Irons not winning any of their last four games in all competitions, David Moyes may perhaps be wondering what may have been had the club been able to do a deal for Deulofeu as they edge slightly closer to being dragged back into the relegation scrap.

And any disappointment over missing out on the winger may be amplified this weekend as Watford travel to the London Stadium to face the Hammers.

If the Barcelona-owned wide-man puts in the same kind of performance against Moyes' side to the one that helped destroy Chelsea, it will be extremely difficult for West Ham to get anything out of the contest.

And if Deulofeu does play another starring role and moves Watford further away from the bottom three while also leaving the Irons more vulnerable, then the fans would be entitled for wondering why, after links emerged with them, that the winger was able to move to a rival on loan instead.
