The Rangers ace was heavily linked with an exit from Ibrox last month.
Gers boss Graeme Murty addressed the media today ahead of his side’s clash with Hibernian tomorrow, and responded to questions asking him about the future of Alfredo Morelos, admitting that he will be willing to discuss a new deal with the Colombian, as quoted by the Daily Record.
The 21-year-old moved to Ibrox from HJK Helsinki in the summer of 2017, and he has gone on to be a real hit in Glasgow, scoring 11 goals in 22 Scottish Premiership outings thus far.
Morelos was the subject of an £8 million bid from Chinese Super League outfit Beijing Renhe on transfer deadline day, according to Sky Sports, but Rangers rejected their advances, choosing to keep hold of their prized asset.
The Colombian has reportedly demanded an improved contract in the wake of Beijing Renhe’s interest in him, according to the Daily Record, and Murty responded to those claims today.
The 43-year-old told reporters both how he and Rangers’ Director of Football Mark Allen are willing to sit down and have a discussion with the striker, as quoted by the Daily Record:
“If he’s happy with where he is at the moment, if he wants to talk about his contract, I’ve got a director of football (Mark Allen) who’s fantastic about that kind of thing. I’ll be there to talk to him about it as well. But we want people here focused on our message and what we are trying to do. Alfredo wants to play games and score goals but he can do that here.”
Morelos looks like he will be remaining at Ibrox, for the mean time at least, but with the Chinese transfer window not due to close until the end of this month, it is still possible that the Colombian could leave the club.
