West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club announced on their official website that Toni Martinez has left the Irons to join Real Valladolid on loan for the rest of the season.

Amongst an exciting under-23 group, Martinez was arguably one of the standout prospects in the Irons squad. The 20-year-old has had no problem finding the back of the net for the youth side this term.

And with goals from strikers often proving to be a problem in the first-team, there have been numerous calls throughout the season for David Moyes to give him his chance in the senior side in the hope that the confidence that he has built in the under-23s translates into inspired form for the first-team.

He has been given his chance this term. He played both ties against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup and also started the defeat to Wigan Athletic in the same competition in January.

Despite that, and the fact that the Irons sold Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew during the latter stages of the January window, the club have confirmed that they have loaned the forward out for the rest of the season, with Real Valladolid his destination.

Unsurprisingly, the news has not gone down well amongst a large section of the West Ham fanbase. While some believe that it could be a good move for the youngster if he is not going to get first-team football at the London Stadium, others cannot understand what the thinking is when the Irons have so few options to pick from.
