It took some time, but Aston Villa fans were finally rewarded for their deadline day patience last night as the club confirmed the loan signing of Lewis Grabban from AFC Bournemouth.
The experienced 30-year-old striker will assist in the club’s promotion push until at least the end of the 2017/18 season, with Villa being the 11th club that Grabban has played for throughout his thirteen-year career.
He was not the only outgoing Bournemouth striker last night, either, with Benik Afobe also being sent out on loan to former club Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Grabban has already made quite the impression in the Championship during this campaign, with his 12 goals in 20 appearances for Sunderland being a fantastic return when you consider the precarious position that they find themselves in.
Still, it is a well-earned jump from the bottom to the top for Grabban, who has always proved himself to be a handful in this division.
Some fans are rightly cautious given the journeyman nature of his career over the last few years, with his stint at Reading only seeing him produce three goals in 19 appearances. Obviously, the set-up at Villa Park will be entirely different, but you have to question whether or not his inconsistency will plague his time there.
Either way, the majority of Villans are choosing to look on the positive side of things, with the following tweets being the best of the bunch on social media ever since his move to the club was confirmed late last night.
Lewis Grabban should be a good addition to #avfc squad. Good goalscoring record in a poor side so far this season— Jon (@jonthevillaboy) February 1, 2018
Time will tell with Grabban & Tuanzebe but decent enough transfers this season for the amount spent. #avfc— Rob Jones (@UpTheAstonVilla) February 1, 2018
I'd love Hogan & Davis to fire us to glory but it's never going to happen. Not sure how good Grabban is but it's more ammo in the box #AVFC— Had Enough (@RussellBeard433) February 1, 2018
Tbf must be absolutely smashing for Grabban to make this move. First real crack playing for a club that have actually got a physical trophy cabinet rather than a merely figurative one #AVFC https://t.co/iDVYENiHuW— Matt (@dvtavfc) February 1, 2018
Seems that one of us would get Grabban and one would get Afobe, but it wasn’t certain who would get who, mad when you think that Bournemouth are able to loan out two strikers to two of the top three Championship clubs. #AVFC https://t.co/xB8crbM63I— The Holte (@TheHolteTweets) February 1, 2018
Didn't see the point of the Grabban signing earlier in the window, but he's a much better option off the bench than What Davis is tbf #AVFC— James (@JBaker_24) February 1, 2018
Grabban is a smart loan signing. He lurks around the six-yardbox for chances and knows how to tuck them away. I think we needed another striker, especially as Ross McCormack is at home watching reruns of Neighbours. #avfc— Mark Leonard (@mleonardsf) February 1, 2018
So we've signed Grabban on loan. Normally I'd be pleased but such is the passion, togetherness & spirit in the squad I don't want to see things disturbed. Still in Bruce we trust, he & the coaching team have done a good job so far & we are certainly building momentum. #AVFC— Kevin Hughes (@kevinhughes348) January 31, 2018
