According to a report from the Daily Star, West Ham are considering a surprising late move for Cardiff City captain Sol Bamba as David Moyes looks to cope with the significant number of injuries within his squad.

The Hammers are currently having to deal with a number of players being sidelined due to injury, and with time running out on the January transfer window, it appears that Moyes is thinking outside of the box in his attempts to bolster the squad.

The Star reports that 33-year-old Bamba is on the Irons' radar during the final hours of the window and a late bid for the defender could be on the cards.

Bamba has been fantastic for Cardiff this season. His form led to boss Neil Warnock claiming earlier in the month that he was a better defender than £75 million Virgil van Dijk - as reported by the Star.

Nevertheless, it would be absolutely no surprise if the Hammers fans were completely underwhelmed with the links with the former Leeds United defender given that he should be reaching the twilight of his career and is yet to play in the Premier League.

And given his importance to the Bluebirds and their promotion bid out of the Championship, it would be no surprise if Cardiff demanded a significant fee for the defender before they let him leave - especially as they would have little time to find a replacement.
