Steve Bruce is keen to bolster Aston Villa’s striking options.

Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce is still hoping to sign a striker during this transfer window.
The Villans are currently short of forwards, with last season’s top-scorer Jonathan Kodjia’s recent injury set to rule him out for the rest of the season.
The Birmingham Mail have reported Villa have made enquiries for a number of forwards. Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa is top of their list while Robin Van Persie – who has now moved to Feyenoord – and Nahki Wells are also being targeted.

With van Persie now out of the question, should Villa be focusing on Wells rather than Ulloa? Based on this season’s statistics, neither player has scored a goal, or played a lot of football for that matter, so both carry similar concerns.
An area where Wells beats Ulloa is age. The Burnley forward is 27 while the Argentine is 31 and arguably coming to the end of his career. The Bermudan also has a good recent record in the Championship.

Wells scored 49 goals during his three-and-a-half year stint with the Terriers, with 28 of those coming between 2015 and 2017, so it is a league where he has shown he can score prolifically, which would take away the risk element on Villa’s part.
The ex-Bradford striker does have promotion experience which will be handy to Bruce, having done so with both West Yorkshire clubs via the play-offs.
Ulloa’s Premier League winner’s medal must not be forgotten, but overall there are plenty of reasons why Wells would be the ideal signing for Villa. He is younger, has a good track record and will probably come fairly cheap.
