Leeds United’s promotion push is beginning to slowly collapse.

Leeds United have now gone five games without a win in all competitions and have slipped to 10th in the Championship table.

Thomas Christiansen’s side were fifth at the end of December but are now three points off the top six. Ill discipline has cost Leeds as they have had three red cards in their last three matches. There have been question marks raised about Christiansen’s position and not for the first time.

Between September and December, Leeds went on a run of seven defeats in nine games, so it is not the first time the former APOEL boss has been on a poor run.

Watford sacked Marco Silva on Sunday and now a manager of his quality is on the market, should Leeds be acting quickly?

Silva gave Hull City a new lease of life when he arrived at the KC Stadium. They were 19th when he took over and the Tigers looked dead and buried, but he picked up 17 points from his first 11 games to take them out of the relegation zone.

Marco Silva, Manager of Watford gives his team instructions during the Premier League match between Watford and Huddersfield Town at Vicarage Road on December 16, 2017 in Watford, England.

He made clever signings and had a fantastic home record which helped Hull turn it around. Given some time in the window he could have a similar short term effect at Leeds.

He started excellently at Watford as well. After eight games in charge Watford were fourth in the table, having lost just once to Manchester City so, with things stagnating under Christiansen, Silva would be the perfect manager to provide an instant upturn in form. After all, his record proves he is not a manager who will take time to improve matters.

The concern with Silva is when the inevitable honeymoon period ends and he loses his first couple of games. Having taken Hull out of the drop zone, they lost their last three games and got relegated.

It would all depend on how many points he can pick up in the early weeks which could compensate for a poor run later in the season. Should Leeds part with Christiansen, there is nobody better available, so it is something they should at least consider.
