Newcastle have been chasing a forward for some time, with Rafael Benitez eager to improve his forward options.

And Newcastle fans have a feeling that the man Benitez has identified as his first choice addition is Gameiro.

Gameiro has struggled for game time at Atleti this season, and the arrival of Diego Costa could force him out.

The French forward has scored six goals in 18 appearances, and he has previously netted fairly prolifically in Spain and France.

Gameiro has scored 76 goals in 209 La Liga appearances over the course of his career, and has previously proven his quality at the highest level.

If Newcastle were to sign Gameiro, he would be in competition with Dwight Gayle and Joselu for a starting place.
