Everton reportedly make move to scupper Crystal Palace's Khouma Babacar interest

Everton's English manager Sam Allardyce looks on before the English Premier League football match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at Wembley Stadium in London, on January 13, 2018.

Fiorentina striker Khouma Babacar looks set to swap Serie A for the Premier League, but will he join Everton or Crystal Palace?

Everton appear to have totally reshaped their attack by spending a combined £50 million on both Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott.

But that does not mean the Toffees are planning to put away their chequebook just yet. Because La Nazione reports that another striker is on Everton’s radar; one they tried and failed to sign during the summer.

According to The Mail, Everton made an enquiry to sign Fiorentina’s Khouma Babacar in the August transfer deadline but were denied the chance to bring him to Goodison Park.

Six months later, however, it has been reported in Italy that Babacar is set to finally leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi this month and a move to Merseyside is on the cards.

The 24-year-old is a powerful and athletic centre-forward who is seen as having a great deal of potential, even if he has never really nailed down a place in Fiorentina’s starting XI. All but one of Babacar’s 16 Serie A appearances this season have come from the bench but he has still managed four goals.

The Senegalese striker also scored 10 in 13 starts during 2016/17.

Premier League rivals Crystal Palace have been heavily linked of late, with Roy Hodgson searching for a striker to take the pressure off the floundering Christian Benteke.

The Mail reported a week ago that a £15 million move to Selhurst Park looked likely with Palace beating off competition from West Ham.

But it seems that a deal is far from done with Everton suddenly launching themselves into the race for one of Serie A’s most in-demand players.
