Sky Sports pundit David Prutton predicted the outcome of tonight's Championship clash between the Rams and the Robins, when writing his regular prediction column for Sky Sports.

Derby are in the midst of a fantastic run of form, having not lost a Championship game since November 28th, and they currently sit in second spot in the table, 10 points adrift of league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Bristol City, meanwhile, occupy fifth position, after losing their last five Championship outings, and are five points behind tonight's opponents.

Tonight's clash is a hugely important one for both sides, for obvious reasons, and defeat would seriously harm their chances of securing promotion to the Premier League this term.

Prutton wrote his regular prediction column for Sky Sports, and explained why he believes Lee Johnson's men could be in for a tough evening in the east Midlands tonight:

"Derby have been on an excellent run of form lately and will be brimming with confidence ahead of this game on Friday night. They're now in second place and favourites to get promoted behind Wolves, which proves what a fantastic job Gary Rowett has done so far. Bristol City, meanwhile, have lost five in a row and may have half an eye on their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg with Manchester City next week. They need to sort out their Championship form, though, as there are plenty of sides queuing up behind them waiting to take their spot in the play-offs. I can't see that happening on Friday night, however. Home win."

Prediction: Derby 2-1 Bristol City

A win for the Rams would see them close the gap on league leaders Wolves to just seven points, with Nuno Espirito Santo's side not playing until tomorrow, whilst victory for the Robins could see them climb as high as third, if results elsewhere go their way of course.
