Should Celtic and Leeds United consider challenging Swansea City for Amin Younes?

The Daily Mail’s Transfer Blog (18-01-2018, 15:47) reported this afternoon that Swansea City are considering a move for Ajax winger Amin Younes, but Leeds United and Celtic should also be in the race to sign the 24-year-old.

With his contract up this summer, Younes, valued at £5.7 million according to Transfermarkt, would leave the Dutch capital for a cut-price fee if he does wind up leaving this month – and he’d be worth it at Leeds or the Hoops.

Thomas Christiansen’s side have looked devoid of creativity in recent weeks and someone like Younes – who can play on both wings and at number 10 – could be a big asset for the Whites.

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - AUGUST 2:

Even with Samu Saiz, who is suspended for the next five Championship games, United’s trident of the Spaniard, Pablo Hernandez and Egzjan Alioski haven’t always been consistent and the addition of another dynamic player would certainly add something as seventh-placed Leeds look to get their Premier League promotion bid back on track.

Meanwhile, Celtic have been linked with a move for Chelsea winger Charly Musonda again which, if true, suggests that Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is in the market for a wide option, given that Patrick Roberts remains sidelined and Jonny Hayes is out for the season.

With Stuart Armstrong also missing for the next month, Younes could potentially play in the hole behind Leigh Griffiths or Moussa Dembele, and 16 chances created in nine Eredivisie games this season suggests that the former Borussia Monchengladbach man can be the creative spark that Rodgers’s side could and probably will miss in Armstrong.

Snubbing a Premier League side might be difficult, but it’s a Premier League side who will most probably be playing in the Championship next season, so Leeds or Celtic shouldn’t write themselves off on the basis that a top-flight side are reportedly interested.

Younes, who has 12 goals in 65 games for Ajax since joining in 2015, has five caps for Germany since his debut in May 2017.
