The report claims that the Newcastle man will join the Ligue 1 side on loan initially and then in a £4 million permanent deal in the summer, if all goes well.
Saivet, a £5.5 million signing two years ago under Steve McClaren, has been given a second wind in his Magpies career recently, and scored in a 3-2 win at West Ham in December.
But it seems like Rafael Benitez isn't too keen on the 27-year-old, who was heavily linked with a move away last summer but wound up staying.
Here's how Newcastle fans have reacted to the rumour that he could go.
I thought that last window but it didn’t happen— Ben Riley (@RILEYENNIS) January 17, 2018
We’ll be worse off and won’t replace him. This is fast turning into a catastrophic time in the club’s history. Collision course #nufc— Craig Beavers (@craigbeavers) January 17, 2018
he's a good player to be fair, never really got a chance— Gaz Tone (@gaztone90) January 17, 2018
I quite like Saivet and actually sad to see him go— Yee Old Toon #24 (@TheOptimisticG) January 17, 2018
Crazy decision, especially knowing we WILL NOT make any signings— Dayle (@DayleBarron) January 17, 2018
No chance— hardy (@hardy27) January 17, 2018
It's been another truly disastrous transfer window for Benitez but surely offloading Saivet is good news and indicates that the Spanish manager is confident of new arrivals.
But the United boss gave himself a deadline of January 20 to get his transfer business completed this month, so hopefully for Newcastle fans' sake he extends that by a few days because, as of now, nobody has arrived.
Saivet has made just seven first-team appearances for the Magpies.
