Stoke City have made their move to replace Mark Hughes... by appointing Paul Lambert.

BBC Sport report Lambert has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with the Premier League side, who are battling relegation.

A decade ago Lambert was making his name as one of Britain's most promising managers, leading Norwich City to back to back promotions from League One to the Premier League.

A poor stint at Aston Villa followed, with Lambert failing to win over supporters, and his reputation has not recovered, with poor short term spells at Blackburn Rovers and Wolves following.

Lambert was fired by Wolves at the end of the season, and they are now set for promotion to the Premier League following substantial investment and good work from replacement Nuno Santo.

Stoke are sitting in 18th place in the Premier League and at real risk of relegation.

This is a big chance for Lambert to revive his managerial career, but it is a bit of a shock that he has landed the opportunity.

Here is a look at how Wolves fans reacted on Twitter to his appointment...
