West Ham United have been linked with making a move for Everton midfielder Tom Davies.

In comments reported by Football London, West Ham assistant Alan Irvine has praised Everton midfielder Tom Davies, but insisted that the Irons have made no approach for the youngster.

The Daily Mirror reported at the weekend that the Hammers were considering making a move for Davies in the hope that Sam Allardyce may be willing to let him leave Goodison Park.

The Mirror suggested that Allardyce would be willing to consider bids for a number of his players - though it was not clear whether Davies was one of the players that he would think about cashing in on this month. But while Irvine admitted that he was impressed by the 19-year-old - who he worked with during his time as a coach at Everton - he claimed that no bid had been made.

"I know him well, worked with him since he was 13 or 14 and is a really talented player but to my understanding, we have not made any approach to Everton," he said, as reported by Football London.

It would certainly be a major shock if Davies was allowed to leave the Toffees this month, even if his form has probably not been quite as impressive this season.

The teenager is one of the best prospects coming through at a club where they seem to continually bring promising youth players out of their academy. And while Allardyce may still be waiting to get the best out of him, selling him to a top flight rival - if West Ham do end up making a bid and are successful - would surely be a huge mistake.
