Newcastle United didn’t sell Jonjo Shelvey to Premier League rivals West Ham United, so Christian Atsu is surely unlikely to move to the London Stadium.

West Ham United seem to have identified Newcastle United as their primary transfer market this month.

The Sun stated that Aleksandar Mitrovic was a possible signing for the Hammers this month, with the striker out of favour under Magpies manager Rafa Benitez.

And West Ham were also keen to take Jonjo Shelvey from Tyneside for a fee of around £12 million, according to the Northern Echo. But understandably Benitez does not want to sell a key player to a team who could end up fighting against Newcastle for Premier League survival towards the end of the season.

Therefore the chance of Christian Atsu pulling on the claret and blue strip before the end of this month looks unlikely to say the least.

Goal states that the Ghanaian winger is another Newcastle ace who is in the frame for West Ham, but he has been an important player for the Magpies in the first half of the season and looks set to play a key role in their battle against the drop.

As reported by the Guardian, Newcastle signed Atsu for £6 million in May after helping the club win the Championship title during an impressive loan spell from Chelsea.

Since then, the 26-year-old has scored twice and set up another two in 19 Premier League appearences for Benitez’s side. He also played a starring role as Newcastle beat West Ham 3-2 at the London Stadium in December, producing a goal and an assist to pave the way for a rare away win.
