Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has intimated to West Yorkshire Sport that head coach Thomas Christiansen was philosophical after the 1-0 defeat by Ipswich Town.

United dropped outside the top six in the Championship after an unfortunate defeat at Portman Road today, achieved by Bersant Celina's winner on 67 minutes.

Christiansen's side played most of the game with 10 men after Eunan O'Kane was sent off in the first half for an alleged head nudge on Jonas Knudsen after 38 minutes, with the Irish midfielder and no Leeds player contesting the decision.

In spite of the numerical disadvantage, the Whites still fashioned plenty of goalscoring chances until the final whistle, but none were converted and Phillips's post-match comments suggest that Christiansen wasn't furious at full time.

He told West Yorkshire Sport: "Obviously I'm disappointed with the result.

"I've just gone into the shower and now I'm ready to go home. The manager came in and said 'it happens in football' and we played well in the second half and we fought well."

It was Leeds' third defeat in four games in all competitions and it just gets worse and worse.

They can also expect to have O'Kane missing for a minimum of three matches it seems which, considering Samu Saiz is already banned for five more, and Luke Ayling ruled out for the season, it's not what the Elland Road side needed today really.
