Everton manager Sam Allardyce confirmed on Friday that negotiations with Arsenal are 'ongoing', but insisted that a deal is 'not imminent'.
It has been reported that Walcott could cost between £20 million and £30 million and according to Hutchison, the 28-year-old would be a signing made 'for the sake of it'.
The former Scotland international posted the following on Twitter: "Just reading Everton (are) working on a deal to sign Theo Walcott. Why, when they have a brilliant youngster in (Ademola) Lookman? Looks like a signing for the sake of it to me."
Just reading Everton at working on a deal to sign Theo Walcott♂️ whywhen they have a brilliant youngster in A Lookman. Looks like a signing for the sake of it to me— Don Hutchison (@donhutch4) 12 January 2018
Walcott has only played 872 minutes of football for Arsenal this season, but has still managed to score four goals of his own and provide another five for his teammates.
And the majority of Everton fans appear to be on board with the England international's arrival.
Here's what they're saying, in response to Hutchison's tweet:
We’re lacking pace goals and assists but Walcott is a signing for the sake of it ok don— Ryan ✌️ (@whatsournamefc) 12 January 2018
I see what youre getting at mate, but I think Lookman needs some loan time away. He has the raw ability but far from the finished product— Jack (@Jack_Gooding) 12 January 2018
Not watched Everton much this season don???— Barry jones (@BJones1878) 12 January 2018
Experience, pace and goals. I prefer Walcott to Lennon. Can't keep playing so many young players at once. Bolasie, Walcott, Lookman and Vlasic, 2 from those 4 every game. It also enables Gylfi to stick to the 10 position.— Paul Wright (@wrightp79) 12 January 2018
It’s about goals as much as pace, assists etc. The age difference means that Walcott will be more consistent. Lookman is an excellent impact player atm imo.— barry sherlock (@barry_sherlock) 12 January 2018
Lookman because of his age and inexperience will blow hot and cold, Walcott would give us options and release pressure off lookman so he can grow into the player we want him to be, and will give a little competition which is always good— wolfie (@Wolf277Wolf) 12 January 2018
Because he scored 19 goals from the bench last season and were hardly free scoring are we?— Sam Dean (@SamDean92) 12 January 2018
The problem with Everton squad is we have no depth, we need 2 players for positions to push the players on. Think it would be a great signing especially with Tosun as a focal point.— Steven Taylor (@Stevexebra) 12 January 2018
They need more than 1 player with any kind of pace tho Don, they're so slow.— scott williams (@strebby1) 12 January 2018
Walcott would be straight in the first 11. Lookman would be a fantastic replacement for him last 30/20 mins— Martin Connon (@martinconnon) 12 January 2018
Everton have already strengthened their attack with the signing of former Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun this month.
Tosun had scored 14 goals in 24 for the Turkish side this season, prior to his move to Goodison Park.
