Martin is being linked with moves to Fulham, Reading and Sunderland after starting just seven times under Gary Rowett at Derby.
The 29-year-old is a proven performer at Championship level, where he has scored 81 goals in 276 games - including 10 for Fulham during a loan spell last season.
And Leeds are one club that should know all about him, having been on the receiving end of four goals and two assists in 13 meetings with Martin at various clubs.
The Whites have struggled to replace Chris Wood's goals since the New Zealand striker's move to Burnley in August, and many fans believe that at least one more body is required up front this month.
Martin, it seems, would be a popular choice - here's what's being said about the Derby man on Twitter...
If Chris Martin is available on loan then surely he's the type of forward that would fit into our system perfectly. #lufc— Gary Senior (@senior_gary) 11 January 2018
I rate him but we don’t do obvious signings— Ryan Pinnick (@RPlufc93) January 10, 2018
Reading getting Chris Martin on loan... I mean... surely he’d be worth a shot! #lufc— Jack (@EllandReports) 10 January 2018
Being linked with Hugill (Preston) and Martin (Derby) on the striker front, two strikers I'd happily take at Leeds. Let's get one of those done, shall we? #LUFC— Distractedsen Leeds (@DistractedLeeds) 10 January 2018
If we're going to go for someone from this division, i'd prefer Chris Martin. Scored plenty in this division, & has scored regularly at every club he's been at.— JohnnyPizzle (@johnpin79) 10 January 2018
Should Leeds United join the race to sign Derby County's Chris Martin in January?
