With West Ham United, Newcastle and former club Southampton all vying for Theo Walcott according to The Express, Everton will have known that they had a challenge on their hands attempting to win the race for the exit-linked attacker this month.
Perhaps this explains why Everton have made the first move. According to The Telegraph, the Toffees have made an initial bid of £20 million for the Arsenal man and have also agreed to pay his £110,000-a-week wages if he moves to Goodison Park.
Walcott has netted eight goals or more in four separate Premier League seasons for Arsenal and would add not only pace but an underrated ability to finish with class and ruthlessness inside the penalty area; two attributes that an often impotent Everton attack has lacked all season.
But with Walcott enduring the lowest point in his career, failing to start a single Premier League game all season, Everton fans are not exactly jumping for joy at reports of this £20million bid.
It seems that they, like so many others across the country, believe that Walcott just isn’t the player he’s cracked up to be.
Looks like Walcott then, fine with that, but where's the left back? #EFC— Ged Robinson (@Ged_Robinson) January 11, 2018
Walcott *feels* like a signing by a manager concerned mostly about his own short term prospects. Now if Lennon goes, this is an upgrade. My fear is that it becomes another excuse not to develop existing young talent.— Rob Vera (@TheRobVera) January 11, 2018
Waste of time, waste of money. Like Lennon, (and Cleverly... and Schneiderlin... ) short term cover and a long term liability.— Micah (@serenitynigh) January 11, 2018
My only hope is this is agents trying to speed up his move elsewhere with false news.
Dunno what I think of Walcott me haha, if we could get him on the cheap like £20m or less then I’d go for him. Pacey like just never really kicked on did he.— Matty (@_MattyEFC) January 11, 2018
Ok. Let’s keep this simple. Why’s he being sold? Because he hasn’t cut it at a top four club at the age of 28. So.......a big fat NO!— dave webb (@davedoubleu57) January 11, 2018
