The German striker could be a useful addition to the Newcastle United squad.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez looks on during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Burnley at Old Trafford on December 26, 2017 in Manchester, England.

Magpies boss Rafa Benitez will be determined to bolster his ranks at St James' Park this month, with his side looking nervously over their shoulders at the relegation zone.

Newcastle currently sit in 13th spot in the Premier League table, but only two points separate them from the drop zone, and reinforcements will surely be required, if they are to enjoy a successful second half of their campaign.

Benitez has made no secret of his desire to bring an established striker to the club this month, with his side's tally of just 20 league goals scored currently the fifth worst in the division.

With this in mind, the Spaniard should attempt to secure a cut-price deal for Hoffenheim hitman Mark Uth, with the German's contract set to expire in the summer.

With the January transfer window now open and in full swing, this will certainly be one for Magpies fans to keep a close eye on, and if Rafa manages to bring Uth to St James' Park, it could turn out to be a signing of real significance for the Toon.
