Motherwell have landed the signing of Curtis Main (right) as a replacement for Louis Moult
Motherwell completed their first signing of the January transfer window when they landed the signature of Portsmouth’s Curtis Main on Wednesday.
Louis Moult scored 50 goals in 98 appearances for Motherwell before moving on to Preston North End this month
Main, 25, who previously spent three seasons with Middlesborough in the Championship, has had a difficult time while at Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth, finding himself in and out of the team. However, Robinson was quick to praise the 2016/2017 EFL League Two Champion upon his arrival.
Speaking to the club website Robinson said: “I’ve brought him here to bolster out attacking options and get amongst the goals.
“I’ve tried to sign [Curtis] a number of times before. He is a strong, sharp, tenacious player with an eye for goal.”
Main's highest season goal tally came in 2014/2015 for Doncaster Rovers (10 in all competitions)
Main’s highest season tally came in 2014/2015 when he found the net 10 times for Doncaster Rovers in all competitions. With Moult having scored 14 already this season, the now-Preston North End front man will be sorely missed and Main will have to add more goals to his game if he is to fill the void left by Moult’s departure.
Also speaking to the Motherwell website Main said: “There were a few options but I felt this challenge, coming up here and testing myself in a new environment, is something that really appealed to me.”
