The January transfer window is open and Everton are reportedly close to securing their first signing of the month in Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun.

Tosun, who has scored eight goals in 16 league games this season, has been heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park, and the deal is now set to come to fruition for a fee of around £27 million, as reported by The Guardian.

It has been clear that Everton have needed a new striker since selling Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United last summer, with their existing options in that regard not exactly of the highest standard.

Oumar Niasse has impressed in patches but it is questionable whether he can be relied upon to perform consistently over the course of a season, while Sandro Ramirez has struggled to settle following his switch from Malaga and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is talented but still rather inexperienced.

Tosun, at the age of 26 and off the back of a scintillating first half of the season, could well be the solution to Everton’s attacking problems.

The Turkey international has demonstrated that he is capable of performing in the Champions League – he has scored four goals and provided two assists in Europe’s elite club competition this season, including strikes against Porto and Monaco.

While securing Champions League qualification this season will surely be beyond Everton, with Tosun in the side there would be a chance of them getting into the top four next campaign and he would be able to make a major impact if The Toffees do achieve that objective.
