Southampton rounded off 2017 with a spirited draw away at Manchester United.

Southampton fans have been lauding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after his performance in their goalless draw with Manchester United on Saturday, and they have urged Mauricio Pellegrino not to leave the Dane out of the side again.

The Saints went into the clash at Old Trafford off the back of a heavy defeat to Tottenham at Wembley that had seen their run without a win in the Premier League extend to seven games.

They looked considerably better however than they did against Spurs, and had their opportunities to actually win the game, with Shane Long coming closest for the visitors who go into 2018 13th in the top flight ahead of a crucial clash with Crystal Palace at the start of the New Year.

While it has not been the best end to the year for Southampton, they do take some positives with them into the second-half of the campaign - and one of those positives is most definitely the form of Hojbjerg.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder has impressed since getting into the side and stepped up once again against United, and that has resulted in the 22-year-old receiving a huge amount of praise from the fans after the game on Twitter.

The midfielder has arguably been one of the Saints' best performers, and yet, he has struggled to hold down a place in the team - with his appearance at the weekend only his eighth in the league this season - and that has perplexed the fans, who have urged Pellegrino to make him one of the first names on the teamsheet every week.
