According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace may send Timothy Fosu-Mensah back to Manchester United in January as  they look to free up a Premier League loan space.

Palace are only allowed to loan two players from their top-flight counterparts, and have United’s Fosu-Mensah and Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on their books.

The Daily Mail understands that manager Roy Hodgson wants the option of signing an attacker on loan and could therefore sacrifice Fosu-Mensah at the cost of a £1m fee.

However, Hodgson may want to reconsider his stance on the Dutchman’s future following his outstanding display in Sunday’s 0-0 draw with the previously unstoppable Manchester City.

Fosu-Mensah outmuscled and outpaced Leroy Sane in a fascinating battle down the Palace right, impressively subduing the dangerous German winger at Selhurst Park.

The 19-year-old has made 10 Premier League starts for Palace this season, although Hodgson had preferred Joel Ward at right-back prior to the defender’s recent injury.

With Martin Kelly needed at centre-back to cover for the injured Mamadou Sakho and Scott Dann, there is now a chance for Fosu-Mensah to make the right-back place his own.

While Hodgson is keen to recruit another goalscorer, he would do well to find one on loan who could have the sort of impact that Fosu-Mensah had against City this afternoon.
