Newcastle fans have been slamming Matt Ritchie on Twitter after the winger was one of a number of players who struggled to make an impact during their goalless draw with Brighton on Saturday.

The Magpies went into their clash with the Seagulls off the back of a poor run of form. And their last game of 2017 provided little reason for optimism as the two promoted teams played out a goalless draw at St James' Park to leave Newcastle just one point above the bottom three in the Premier League.

One of the players who proved particularly disappointing on the pitch was Ritchie, and the supporters were less than happy with what they saw from the former Bournemouth man.

The £12 million winger - fee reported by the Daily Mail - was exceptional during his first year with Newcastle and began the year in the top flight in fantastic form, providing four assists in his first five Premier League appearances this term.

Since then however, he has contributed just one assist, and none since the end of November, and is still awaiting his first goal of the campaign. And after this latest lacklustre performance, the fans took to social media to express their disappointment at his recent displays.

Here is the best of the reaction...
