Manchester United fans call for Timothy Fosu-Mensah back after starring Crystal Palace display

As ESPN reports, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has complained that the Red Devils need more money to compete with runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City in the future.

"Manchester City buy the full-backs for the price of the strikers”, ESPN quotes Mourinho as saying.

Well, the Portuguese may have stumbled on a top-class full-back for free in the shape of loan star Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who shone during the first half of Crystal Palace’s clash with City on Sunday.

The 19-year-old Dutchman relished the challenge of keeping Leroy Sane quiet at Selhurst Park, matching the German for speed and strength and making several confident and crucial defensive contributions.

According to the Daily Mail, Palace are considering terminating Fosu-Mensah’s contract in January as they want to free up another loan space, and United fans on Twitter would be happy to have him back.

Fosu-Mensah has started 10 Premier League games for Palace this season, but Eagles manager Roy Hodgson has Joel Ward and Martin Kelly who can operate at full-back if he were to go back to United.

Mourinho’s first-choice right-back Antonio Valencia is currently nursing an injury which has forced him to switch Ashley Young flanks to cover, and rotate several unfancied options in his place on the left.

Fosu-Mensah has made 21 senior appearances for the Red Devils and is versatile across several positions, but his display against Sane today suggested that he has a bright future at full-back at Old Trafford.
