West Ham fans have been reacting on Twitter to the reports that recently came out of the Daily Mirror which suggested that David Moyes is looking to bring Stoke midfielder Joe Allen to the London Stadium during the January transfer window.
The Hammers go into 2018 inside the relegation zone in the Premier League after a poor start to the season. What will encourage Moyes however, is that they have recently beaten Chelsea and Stoke and drawn with Arsenal and Bournemouth - and were unfortunate to see the Cherries' equaliser against them stand.
The Irons are only four points off 12th place in the division, and that arguably makes January an absolutely huge month for the club - and according to the Mirror, they are getting their targets identified ready for when the window opens.
The Mirror reports that Allen is one of the players who Moyes wants to sign. The Welshman has featured regularly for the Potters this term, scoring once and providing four assists for Mark Hughes' men.
Interestingly, the reports have been met by a very mixed reaction amongst West Ham fans on social media, with many unconvinced that he is that much of an upgrade on what they already have available to them.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of supporters who believe that the 27-year-old has the quality to improve the Hammers squad if he did end up joining, and thus, they would like to see a deal take place.
Here is the best of the reaction...
You think Joe Allen is better than Any of our CM’s? First of all he is more of a playmaker, so could only be compared to Lanzini, who he is certainly no where near as good as. If you were to play him as a holding mid, he wouldn’t get near Obiang or Cheik. Joe Allen Oh my god!!— Kai Vale (@KaiVale) December 30, 2017
If West Ham sign joe Allen il be looking for a new team to support— Matt Tanner (@matttans) December 30, 2017
Joe Allen is far from average— West Ham Fan Zone (@WHUFCFZ) December 30, 2017
Joe Allen would be a better shout than Jonjo Shelvey - Allen would add that extra bite that our midfield is missing so badly at present.Shelvey has the odd good game but other than that looks distinctly average and would not signify an improvement on the other midfielders we have— Josh Verrills (@WestHamJoshV) December 29, 2017
Makes you think when you realise that Joe Allen would be an improvement in our midfield— John groom (@Likemydreams76) December 29, 2017
Do we really want Joe Allen?? Just go back in for William Carvalho again. There’s clearly a reason we ‘made up’ with them— Rob Trudgeon ⚒ (@RobTrudgeon) December 29, 2017
The thing is i don't really want to see Joe Allen at west ham but the outrage from Stoke fans would be funny— Fergus ⚒ (@Fergus_WHU) December 29, 2017
Joe Allen would be a good signing for us. Tom Carroll is another CM i’d like to see in our squad.— COYI!!! (@Nathanbi77) December 29, 2017
Joe allen is mustard— J (@essexhammerjb) December 29, 2017
Joe Allen is a midfield general. Puts his foot in & can pass, score goals when in the right area. Take him all day— Peter Tomkins (@Tomkins112) December 29, 2017
Honestly don’t get how anyone would want joe Allen at West Ham— George Maycock (@MaycockGeorge) December 29, 2017
