If there’s any manager who knows just how good Steven Caulker can be, it’s Brendan Rodgers.

It was the Northern Irishman who really launched the defender’s career after all during a hugely impressive loan spell at Swansea City from Tottenham Hotspur in the 2011/12 season.

The Swans finished 11th that year in their debut Premier League campaign and the rock-solid performances of a young Caulker were as much a factor as the metronomic passing of Leon Britton or the wondrous wing play of Scott Sinclair.

But will Rodgers be tempted to consider a reunion in 2018 at Celtic?

As reported by The Mirror, Caulker has left QPR by mutual consent after the Championship side agreed to terminate his contract. It has been a difficult few years for the defender with injuries, a number of forgettable loan spells and problems off the field seeing his once promising career stall.

But he is just 25 years of age and is far from being on the scrapheap. Rodgers told the Daily Record back in July when reports had linked Caulker to Celtic that he would be interested by the idea of working with the one-time England international again.
