HITC Sport understands Sheffield United keen on Middlesbrough midfielder.

Sheffield United are interested in signing Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Blades boss Chris Wilder has made signing a new midfielder one of his top priorities during the January transfer window after losing Paul Coutts to serious injury.
Coutts is set to miss the rest of the Championship season after fracturing his tibia in the win against Burton in November and Wilder wants to bring in a replacement to boost his squad.
United have struggled for form since Coutts’ injury winning just one of their last seven games and Wilder is hoping to raid Championship rivals Middlesbrough for Clayton.

Clayton has found himself out of favour at Middlesbrough in the last two months after being a constant figure in the side for the last three seasons.
The 28-year-old has only started one of the last 12 games for Boro and was not involved in the squad for the last four games.
It remains to be seen if Clayton will come back into the mix under new Boro boss Tony Pulis with the Welshman likely to assess his whole squad before making any decisions on transfers.
Sheffield United are understood to have made enquiries for Clayton and they are waiting to see if Middlesbrough would be open to the idea of loaning out the midfielder in the second half of the campaign.
