Ex-Magpies ace Shay Given sat down for an exclusive interview with the Daily Express, and delivered his verdict on his former club's chances of signing Reds hitman Daniel Sturridge in January.

Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez will surely be looking to bolster his ranks in January, with the addition of an established hitman featuring highly on the Spaniard's wish-list.

One of the Toon's primary transfer targets is Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, although the Mirror claim that he will not be sold for a penny less than £30 million.

Whilst a move for the England international seems a rather ambitious one for Newcastle, the guarantee of first-team football could be enough to tempt him into a switch to Tyenside, and Given delivered his verdict on the Magpies' chances of snaring him, when speaking exclusively to the Daily Express:

"I think so, yeah. Why not? He’s not playing regularly at Liverpool. I’m sure Rafa knows lots about him with the Liverpool connections and that would be really good."

Sturridge has barely had a look-in at Anfield this season, and he will surely be looking for an exit from Merseyside in January, if he harbours genuine ambitions of making England's World Cup squad for Russia 2018.

And with the opening of the January transfer window just four days away, this will be one for both Newcastle and Liverpool fans to keep a close eye on.
