The Southampton ace is a reported transfer target for Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

According to the Mirror, the Saints are resigned to losing Virgil Van Dijk either in January or next summer – news that will be greatly received over at Anfield, with Jürgen Klopp desperate to bolster his defensive ranks.
Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino seemed to hint that his club made a mistake in not allowing the Dutchman to leave the club earlier this year, when speaking to reporters following his side’s defeat to Spurs yesterday, as quoted by the Mirror:

“I have to decide what’s best for the team and around Virgil there has been a lot of speculation. We tried to do the best for the team. The board decided to try to keep our best player at the club. This situation is a big learning curve for everybody and now we decide what is the best for the club.”

And now the Mirror claim that the south coast outfit will listen to offers in the region of £70 million for the 26-year-old centre-back in January.
Whilst that figure seems to be extortionate on the surface, it would actually represent decent value, considering the fact that Van Dijk is only 26.

He is also one of the continent’s most accomplished centre-backs, and would undoubtedly strengthen the Liverpool side.
If, as reports suggest, the former Celtic man is made available in January, there will be no shortage of potential suitors for his signature, and Liverpool will surely have to do everything within their power to make sure they win the race for his signature.
