Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan’s agent has revealed recently that his client will leave Atletico Madrid next month.

The 29-year-old left footed winger joined the La Liga side from Benfica in 2016, but his high profile move to Atletico didn’t turn out to be a hugely successful one.

He has featured six times six times (only one league start) this season for Diego Simeone’s side in the La Liga, clocking just 217 minutes of action.

His agent has admitted that Gaitan will “undoubtedly” leave the club in January, and that he has some concrete offers, including from Premier League clubs.

Speaking to Foot Mercato, Gaitan's agent said: "I can tell you English clubs are interested.

"Yes, he'll undoubtedly leave Atletico in January. He has a lot of concrete offers."

Gaitan has been previously linked with clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United as reported by The Sun, but doubts remain as to whether they would need him now.

Newcastle, irrespective of their financial condition, should show ambition in the market and back their manager by making a bold move for Gaitan.

He is versatile, capable of playing across all three positions in attacking midfield, and vastly experienced as well.

At 29, he has a lot of football left in him, and should move to a club where he will get regular first team opportunities.

According to transfermarket.com, he would cost around £18 million. It may seem a lot of money for a single player, given Benitez needs to invest on other areas of the pitch, but certainly the club should at least try to fork out a reasonable deal.
