Celtic loanee Ciftci reaches Nadir and Plymouth Argyle fans want him gone

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seen during the UEFA Champions League group B match between Celtic FC and RSC Anderlecht at Celtic Park on December 5, 2017 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Nadir Ciftci cost Celtic a lot of money when he signed from Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee United; now he cannot get a game for Plymouth.

Nadir Ciftci’s season on loan at Plymouth Argyle has not exactly gone to plan.

The Turkish striker was hoping to get his career back on track with the newly promoted League One side but is yet to score for his new club. In fact, Ciftci has only made seven appearances in the English third tier, and only one since the end of September.

As such, speculation had intensified that Plymouth would look to cancel Ciftci’s loan. But, according to The Herald, the seldom-seen 25-year-old is set for another few months at Home Park as there is no break clause in his contract.

This does not mean that Ciftci has a big part to play at the League One strugglers, however. First-year professional Alex Fletcher was preferred on the bench against Rotherham United last Saturday with the Hoops’ loanee playing for the club’s South West Peninsula reserve side against Newquay instead – down in the tenth tier of English football.

It is hard to believe, then, that Celtic invested £1.5 million to bring Ciftci to Parkhead from Dundee United back in the summer of 2015. He fell out of favour immediately after Brendan Rodgers took over in Glasgow and endured a similarly forgettable loan stint at Polish club Pogon Szczecin in the second half of last season.
