David Moyes, manager of West Ham United, celebrates their win at the end of the Premier League match against Stoke City.
David Moyes admitted after West Ham United's 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Arsenal that midfield recruitment was needed in the January transfer window.
"Tonight we were short on midfield players and generally we're short in that area and we could do with adding a little more craft," Moyes was quoted by the Daily Mail.
"It's an area we're short at the moment. But January is never the easiest month to deal with."
Sporting's Jonathan Silva (L) vies with Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro during the UEFA Champions League Group D football match.
The Chronicle reports of the Magpies' interest in Sturaro, who could well be on his way out of current club Juventus after recent comments from his agent Carlo Volpi.
"Juventus have such midfielders as [Blaise] Matuidi, [Claudio] Marchisio and [Sami] Khedira: they all are around 30 years old and incredibly talented and charismatic," Volpi told Tribal Football.
"There are clubs from the Premier [League] which made clear they are interested in Stefano, it would be unfair to name them but the news is coming out. January is imminent."
Rafael Benitez gives instructions during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Newcastle United.
Sturaro was touted with a summer switch to England, with Newcastle thought to also be interested then as well as Everton, but in the end no move materialised.
However, since then the 24-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions - six of which were starts - and may need to leave Turin in order to achieve more regular first team football.
