Matt Crooks of Northampton Town attempts to move forward with the ball away from the challenge of Marcus Maddison
Sheffield United are weighing up a move for Peterborough United attacker Marcus Maddison, HITC Sport understands.
Blades boss Chris Wilder has held a long-term interest in Maddison and considered a move for the winger during the summer transfer window.
Peterborough managed to fend off the interest in Maddison in the summer from a number of clubs and tied him to a new three-year deal in August.
Maddison is regarded as one of the best attacking players outside the top two leagues, after impressing for Peterborough over the last few seasons with the player continually among the top assist makers in the Football League.
The former Newcastle trainee scored nine goals and claimed 17 assists last season and he has continued that rich vein of form this term with nine goals and 11 assists in 29 games in all competitions so far this campaign.
Sheffield United are looking to add to their squad when the transfer window in January, and Wilder sees Maddison as someone who can add creativity to their side in the second half of the season.
The Blades have endured a bit of slump in form in recent weeks to fall out of the automatic promotion places and Wilder is keen to get their promotion bid back on track by adding to his squad options.
Peterborough would be reluctant to lose one of their prize assets in January as they battle for promotion from League One, but they are bracing themselves for interest in Maddison.
