According to the Daily Record’s live transfer blog (19th December, 8.56am), Bain has fallen out with Dundee manager Neil McCann. And with the uncapped Scotsman due to be a free agent in the summer, the report adds that the Scottish Premiership side will listen to offers in the January window.
So Celtic may have plenty of thinking to do – particularly after Craig Gordon’s horror show of a performance in the 4-0 defeat at Hearts on Sunday that saw the champions’ record-breaking 69-game unbeaten domestic end.
34-year-old Gordon has been subjected to intense scrutiny for his performance. And with the even older Dorus De Vries providing back-up, questions must be asked of Celtic’s goalkeeping options.
Bain, at just 26, is not only far younger but also one of the top goalkeepers in Scotland’s first division. And he has been on Celtic’s radar since as far back as 2015, with the Daily Record claiming earlier this year that The Hoops were still tracking him with his contract running down.
Time will tell whether Bain is still a target for Celtic, but The Scottish Sun have claimed, somewhat ironically, that Hearts are hoping to win the race for the shot-stopper, who hasn’t featured for Dundee since October.
