Luke Ayling is one of the first names on Leeds United’s team-sheet but he could be under threat if Aleandro Rosi arrives from Genoa.

Luke Ayling has started all but four Championship games for Leeds United since signing from Bristol City in the summer of 2016.

But recent displays have suggested that Leeds’ Mr Consistent could do with a break. Ayling hasn’t quite performed at the same peerless level this season and, even though his form has picked up again recently, an uncharacteristic series of mistakes during the dismal run between September and November sticks in the mind.

Unfortunately, however, Lewie Coyle is spending the season on loan at Fleetwood Town – meaning Leeds don’t have a senior alternative to Ayling on the right-hand side of defence.

Which perhaps explains why Thomas Christiansen’s side are planning to raid Serie A strugglers Genoa for their 30-year-old right-back Aleandro Rosi in January, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

Rosi is hardly a household name having spent all of his career in Italy but he is an experienced and attack-minded defender who could at least give Ayling the chance to sit out a few fixtures in order to keep his mind and body in tip-top condition.

And Rosi, who has started 12 Serie A games for Genoa this season, may be available for cheap too with his contract due to expire at the end of this season.

While some Leeds fans may once again be concerned that their club is targeting cheap imported signings rather than proven Championship quality, Rosi could perhaps be the key to getting the best out of Ayling once again.
