Tottenham fans have been heaping praise upon Erik Lamela on Twitter after he made his first start in around 14 months in Spurs' victory over Brighton and Hove Albion that moves them up to fourth in the top flight.
Lamela had been brought on as a second-half substitute in Mauricio Pochettino's side's last three Premier League games and had shown signs that he was getting back up to speed after such a lengthy spell out of the team.
And he was rewarded for those bright cameos - which included an assist coming in the game away at Leicester towards the end of November - by being handed a starting spot for the clash against Chris Hughton's side.
It was an encouraging night for Spurs, with goals from Serge Aurier and Heung-min Son scoring towards the end of each half seeing them secure a solid 2-0 win that sees them leap ahead of Liverpool, Burnley and Arsenal in the table.
Lamela's performance generally came in for plenty of praise on social media from Tottenham supporters - with many even suggesting that the Argentinian was the best player on the pitch in the victory.
And his display has given a number of fans the encouragement that he could deserve to keep his starting place for the daunting trip to Manchester City at the weekend.
Here is the best of the reaction...
Lamela prob best on pitch, Sissoko lots of effort but little impact— Mark (@SpursFanVA) December 14, 2017
Really enjoyed Lamela again tonight. So glad we have him back looking so sharp so quickly. Gives Alli and Eriksen more competition as well #coys— Kieran Kirschner (@kkirschy23) December 14, 2017
Good to see Erik Lamela back in action after 14 months out, he's getting quicker and sharper, it won't be long before we see the best of him . pic.twitter.com/CeVideMeqO— Tottenham Hotspur Insider (@julesbevis) December 13, 2017
Tonight Lamela started brightly and was a threat. Towards the end he faded, which is probably down to fitness. But in the time he did shine, he looked like a new signing. Very good to have him back! #COYS— Harry Hotspur (@HarryHotspurWHL) December 13, 2017
So I got a ticket for the game last minute, deserved win, JV is top class centre back, no doubt! I thought dier was solid and Lamela is mustard live#Coys— Benjamin Paris (@BenjaminParis1) December 13, 2017
So happy to see Erik Lamela back playing football. Always felt there’s more to his absence than just bad luck with injuries but whatever it was fingers crossed it’s behind him #Talent— Asher Grindle (@AsherAdonis) December 13, 2017
Not sure what people thought of Lamela tonight but felt he wasn't that great. He will need games to get back to where he was before the injury which is fair enough. Poch has a conundrum whether he or Alli (who didn't have a good cameo) starts against Man City. #TOTBHA #COYS— Harry C (@HazSpur92) December 13, 2017
I thought he was one of our better players always looking for the ball and to keep it moving..— loveswalking100km (@youngy2mark) December 13, 2017
Lamela’s performance for me was a massive positive. We have been desperately lacking players that try to make something happen. Always passes forward and try’s to find the last man.— lets talk thfc (@letstalkthfc) December 13, 2017
Some of the 1 touch passes from Lamela were beautiful today. Probably our best player today.— Hamid (@HamidTHFC) December 13, 2017
