Everton are set to welcome back Yannick Bolasie and James McCarthy in the near future.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has told the Liverpool Echo that Yannick Bolasie and James McCarthy returning to training is good news for his new side.

Both McCarthy and Bolasie are edging closer to full health, after lengthy absences.

McCarthy has made just one appearance this season, while Bolasie has not been seen since December 2016.

But the pair are starting to train with the rest of the Everton squad again, and Allardyce is delighted to welcome them both back.

“I saw Yannick Bolasie and James McCarthy training with us,” he said. “That’s good news. We have to get them back soon.

“Yannick is a couple of games with the U23s or behind closed doors away, we could see him on the subs bench to begin with after that.

“I tend to be easier with James (McCarthy) because of reoccurrence, I’m wary of that.”

Allardyce has remained on Merseyside over the past week, meaning he has been able to keep a close eye on McCarthy’s and Bolasie’s progress.

Allardyce sent a young Everton team out to face Cyprus, with his focus on this weekend’s derby match.

Everton are due to take on Liverpool, as they look for a fourth victory in succession.

If the Toffees can cause an upset against the Reds, then they could move up to ninth in the Premier League table.
