Paul Merson makes big assumption about Everton tactics v Liverpool, predicts result

Pundit Paul Merson says Everton will park the bus against Liverpool.

Paul Merson has told SkySports he predicts Everton will 'park the bus' against Liverpool this weekend.

Liverpool face Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday and are heavy favourites to get a win.

They have scored 12 goals in their last two games against Brighton and Spartak Moscow, while conceding just one.

New Everton boss Sam Allardyce has a big task ahead of him, and Merson believes Everton's only option is to go ultra defensive.

Merson said: "Everton are just going to come and park the bus and get 10 men behind the ball. Then, they will hope they'll get something from a set piece. It will be tight, but Liverpool are just too good at home.

"Liverpool are scoring goals for fun at the moment, and I know their Achilles heel is their defence, but I just don't see how Everton get at them. Sam Allardyce will do everything he can to make it a tight match, but that won't be enough."

Merson is predicting a 2-0 win for the Reds, and while this would not be a great result for Everton, it would at least spare them a big humiliation.

Liverpool are capable of ripping teams apart, and if they take an early lead against the Toffees it could be a long day for Allardyce's side.
