Chris Sutton and Stephen Craigan react to Rangers disappointment

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers will not have Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes as the manager of the Gers, with Graeme Murty currently in charge.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is seen during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers’ pursuit of Derek McInnes seems to be over. The Gers wanted to appoint the Aberdeen boss as their new manager, but the Dons have released a statement claiming that the former Rangers midfielder will remain at the Pittodrie Stadium.

Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne has spoken of his delight at being able to keep hold of McInnes, who is one of the best managers in the Scottish Premiership.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to Rangers failing to secure the services of McInnes, and so has ex-Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan, both of whom now work as pundits for BT Sport.

Rangers will now have to look elsewhere for a new manager, having dismissed Pedro Caixinha back in October and still searching for a permanent successor.

Graeme Murty is in charge of Rangers at the moment, and he is doing a good job with the first team.

Perhaps the Gers should hand Murty the first-team managerial job until the end of the season…
